  1. I disliked Lola. Even though the reasons are obvious, I hated that she was with Cosmo knowing that he was married. She didn't seem to care that he was married and when spotted with him at the Opera she acted like everything was totally normal.

    1. It's not necessarily that I like Lola, instead I just believe that a mistress shouldn't care about the family that man is betraying. Sounds cold I know but that's the point, Lola is cold and characters like her play the role of someone who is selfish and themselves tormented. I believe the real blame is on Cosmo, he sees his wife everyday and can still look her in the eye. Now that's even colder!

  2. I despised Perry with a passion. I feel like Perry has little to no respect for women. After one of his lovers threw a drink on him, he called her an "attractive mental patient". This is disrespectful considering that they were having a conversation about their relationship troubles. He must be doing something wrong for him to get a drink thrown at him by two different women twice during the film. Later on, while Rose kindly told him she didn't want to invite him over, he kept persisting. He is obviously so sleazy, which explains why he is still single and can't keep any of his girlfriends for long.

    1. l understand that completely. Perry appeared to be taking advantage of his students and was living in a world wherein his actions had no real consequences. The thing that redeemed Perry for me was the sadness in his character. Perry was aware that his lifestyle wasn't the norm for someone his age and there was just a real undercurrent of sadness in him.

    2. Perry was definitely despicable. His demeanor always seemed sleazy, like he didn't care. He was only having relationships for the fun of it without any regard for the woman's feelings.

  3. The character I disliked the very most was Cosmo. Aside from him having the affair with Lola, towards the end of the movie he claims he has nothing and that's why he cheats. The fact that he says he has nothing to live for and that's why he cheats is beyond disrespectful because there in front of him he has a loving wife who doesn't do wrong to him, who's trying to figure out why it is he cheats. He also has a daughter who loves him and on top of that he lives with people who love him who are family. There is no worse blind man than the one who doesn't want to see.

    1. Cosmo was a tired man. The actor portrayed a common cycle in man's marriage; boredom. he is bored and wants excitement. Cosmo seems to just want company and to know something else out of his life, but knows he would never be with other women other than his wife. Just as the wife does with Perry. Cosmo is a intricate man and made the film very interesting. Many of the other characters were one dimensional but Cosmo was not.

  4. There wasn't a character l disliked. Every character was written with nuance and depth and l was able to relate to them all. lf l had to select a character, for the sake of the exercise, l would select Johnny. Johnny seemed to be the least aware of every character and it was hard to know exactly where his motivations were. Johnny was also never confident in his decisions so l was never able to really get on his side. Other than that, l really cared about most of the characters and they really had an impact on me.

  5. The character I disliked the most was Johnny. He seems very confused and absent-minded throughout the whole film. he did not do anything malicious or mean-spirited towards anyone but he almost didn't fit the film. He was an accessory to the plot, just a filler because Loretta and Ronny needed conflict before ending up together. Johnny does not even have a ring when he first proposes. He is just a shallow and uninteresting character.

  7. The character I disliked most was Cosmo. In my view he was lost and did not have hope. He was cheating with other woman and with whom he shares all of his sales pitch to a plumbing client. Which I believe he should of shared with his family. One time when he was caught by his daughter he still did not want to share it with his wife. Also I did not like when he did not want his daughter to get married and pay for her wedding.

  8. I see where you are coming from, but I feel as though the same amount of blame should be put onto Lola, because it is not like he had forced her to cheat. Also, (not that cheating was right, he should always confront his family especially if he was caught), but he was in an awkward position because he was caught by his daughter and did not know how to react. I Kindof sympathize him, I do not really know why.

  9. I agree with many of my classmates that Cosmo was my least favorite character. Besides cheating on his wife, he was very unsympathetic. I could not see any real depth in his character. He was superficial and his fear of death did not strike me as original. His interactions with his wife and daughter are sexist and inappropriate and is therefore my least favorite character.

  10. I really really didn't like Jonny! He was such a mushy man which in my opinion is super unattractive. A man has cajones and him, he had half of one. I couldn't even laugh when he kept forgetting his luggage everywhere, I instead thought that was stupid. Jonny was one of those characters that I can't tolerate on screen, everything they do I find repulsive.

  11. The character I disliked the most was Perry the professor at NYU, as he explained to Rose that every semester he'll go out with one of his students like in the beginning and the middle of the movie, a female who is way to young for him, knowing that he's only in it to get the panties. I hate it when the antagonist gets his way and he almost got it when he was with Rose but luckily she had her mind right.

  12. For some reason I really disliked the father Cosmo. I felt as if his wife Rosa was as nice and perfect as a wife could possibly be, yet he hurt her by going out with the mistress Lola. He didn't even have the decency to stop meeting her after he was caught by his daughter which really made no sense to me. He was really mean to his wife as well when he was seeing her and the fact that he was really cheap when it came to his family also somewhat annoyed me. He wasn't even willing to pay for his only daughters wedding, until his father told him he had to do so.

  13. I'd have to say Johnny. I understand that him and Loretta were getting married out of a mutual sense of convenience and that Loretta was going to break it off for Ronny anyway, but when Johnny called it off I got a little pissed. You tell your mother that you're getting married, so she gets better....so then you call it off? I don't understand the logic at all. I also found the way he proposed to be very clumsy and not thought through at all. His entire character seemed very unsure and weak.

  14. I think that Lola was the least likable character throughout the film because she intentionally was looking for love in the wrong place. However, I don't think that Cosmo was completely blameless because he was searching for youth with an extra-martial relationship. When Loretta discovers her father and his mistress at the Opera, Lola knows that she is committing a sin and that she has done wrong. She immediately flees the situation. She does not have any integrity to look at her wrongdoings in the face and admit to what she has done. On the other hand, Cosmo does take accountability at the end when he resigns to ending the relationship. I think Lola wouldn't have been an unlikable character if she had taken accountability for being a "home-wrecker".

  16. I disliked Cosmo the most. He actively had an affair and tried everything to cover it up constantly. He even made that little deal with Loretta just to cover himself, not because it was mutually beneficial. Then when the movie was ending he had 3 words spoken to his wife and apparently all was well. Which i think is ridiculous and is not a good example of character development. And the scene where he tried to change the subject at dinner time. He seemed like he was actively trying to avoid talking about his own feelings. Instead he jsut buried it and refused to grow as a character.

  17. I dislike Cosmo the most because instead of expressing his thoughts of dying or boredom to his wife he goes and cheats.

    1. I can definitely agree. His wife, even though she is old, has graceful and beautiful essence. She did not deserve o be cheated on.

  18. Johnny was too much of a mommy's boy. He wasn't as brave and lacked a spine. He wasn't the leader I look for when it comes to winning the heart of the leading lady.
